What Exactly is Topsoil?

Topsoil is a screened, sandy loam soil that covers the uppermost layers of the earth. Soil itself is defined by the fractions of sand and clay while loam refers to the concentration of sand and clay. Whittier Fertilizer ensures that all sandy loam soil is infused with substantial organic matter to ensure healthy nutrients and good drainage for the surrounding landscape.

Since every client has different fertilization needs, we offer custom mixed topsoil at Whittier Fertilizer. This ensures that your landscape gets the nutrients and texture that it needs. What is top soil used for primarily? I have a large area that I will be landscaping. It is at ground level. I will be planting palm trees and companion plants.
I know that I will need to add sme soil I just not sure which kind. fast driaing is preferred. Any ideas?
Oz09:12:46 04/03/2013#
Jackie, what you will be needing will partly depend on the soil you have now. A soil for palms or cactus or cycads usually consists of sand and pumice for good drainage. You can either amend your existing soil or if it is compacted or clay soil, you may need to replace the soil.
